Interior Designer, Douglas Mackie, joins The Art & Antiques Fair Olympia as part of the Interior Design Talk Series. Hear about about his career and projects, over the last 20 years. The recurrent themes of diversity and eclecticism will be illustrated through a wide range of projects, from the traditional through to the contemporary. His approach to design is highly personal, drawing from a wide range of influences, creating interiors which are designed most importantly as settings for his clients' lives and collections. Antique and modern furniture forms the background for the paintings sculptures and objects which he curates, juxtaposing objects from many different periods in carefully balanced interiors.
Douglas Mackie studied Architecture at Cambridge University, and completed the Diploma in Architecture in 1988. He worked for practices in New York and in London, before spending 3 years working for Tessa Kennedy. D MACKIE DESIGN LTD was established in 1995 in order to combine this architectural background with a passion for furniture, textiles and colour. The company has built up a loyal clientele internationally. Projects cross a variety of periods combining the contemporary and the antique. Designs are informed by a deep knowledge of the history of interior design, and an ability to combine wide ranging influences into interiors which embody the aspirations of their clients.
Douglas has been recognised by House and Garden magazine as one of the 100 leading UK designers since 2009. He was also selected by Architectural Digest as one of the world’s top 100 interior designers in their Collectors Issue, 2015.
